Modalities of Delivery of Final Thesis and Short Article

According to the regulations of the University of Rome “La Sapienza”, the deadline for delivering the doctoral thesis and final article is established in 6 months before the defence of the thesis itself. By taking into account the obligation of submitting also a Short Article, the European/International Joint Ph.D. research trainees are requested to upload the last version of their final thesis (full report and short article) by 31st March. Due to the complex multi-step evaluation process implying a first step assessment by the main tutor and the two co-tutors and - only upon their approval - a second step assessment by the members of the Final Jury, the deadline to upload the complete thesis and short article - already reviewed and approved by the main supervisor and the other co-tutors - is strictly 3 months before the Final Jury Session, which is usually organized during the Summer School. We remind you that it is possible to be admitted to the Final Jury only if the obligatory 180 ECTS have been reached. The credits are accumulated through doctoral training over the years, by participating to the International Lab Meetings and Summer Schools and submitting the meta-analysed articles on social representations (30 articles approved by the Programme Director = 30 ECTS).

1) The digital versions of the thesis and short article must be uploaded in pdf format on the personal page of the research trainee in the European/International Joint PhD in S.R. & C. website. It is essential that the personal page is kept up-to-date, allowing the tutors to monitor the progress of the research project and to provide their advice on what should be modified in the final report. If the page is updated with the intermediate report, the tutors can also evaluate it through the on-line forms that are password protected and provide suggestions about writing the final report. Once the final report is complete, the research trainee must upload it and notify by email the Programme Director, the main supervisor and the other tutors to request their feedback and evaluation on the thesis in order to be admitted to the Final Jury. The supervisor and tutors will then proceed to the on-line evaluation before the Final Jury Session, including the three examiners necessary to the composition of the Final Jury according to the regulations.

2) 5 bound copies of the thesis must be delivered to the European/International Joint PhD Laboratory. The thesis must be bound in a dark blue cover, color of the European/International Joint PhD, and must bear the logo of the European/International Joint PhD (that you can find in the annexes at the bottom of the page). On the spine, the name and surname of the research trainee and the academic year of discussion must be indicated in golden letters. Below you can find a sample of the frontispiece, which is the second page of the book after a blank page. Attached you can find also the image that has to appear as header on each page of the book starting from the third page. The third page of the book has to contain, all centered: title of the thesis in upper case in the research trainee mother tongue, the name and surname with first capital letter, the academic year of discussion and the name of the University. When we receive the copies, we’ll send one copy to each tutor and to each member of the Final Jury and finally we’ll deliver one copy also to the Doctorates Office of La Sapienza and to the National Library of Rome and Florence.

3) 10 copies of the short article must be delivered to the European/International Joint PhD Laboratory. The copies will be inserted in the official folders of the European/International Joint PhD by the Laboratory staff.

4) Prior to the thesis defence session the research trainees must complete a questionnaire about their PhD experience on the website of AlmaLaurea. All the indications to complete the questionnaire can be found in this document issued by Sapienza Doctoral Division.

5) Once the thesis has been successfully discussed, it must be uploaded on IRIS-Institutional Research Information System. To login to the IRIS platform the research trainee must use the same access credentials of their Sapienza email acount
